One very early morning in September 2016, I was driving my Portuguese Water Dog Violet to an All Breed competition hosted by the Tuxedo Park Kennel Club. As I approached my exit from the state highway, the cars in the exit ramp quickly came to a complete stop. Just after I came to a stop, a Dodge RAM truck slammed into the back of my vehicle and caused a four car crash.
It is estimated that the truck was going between 20 and 25 mph when it hit my vehicle. Weighing approximately 5300 pounds, this truck crushed the rear of my SUV. Violet and I, however, were both safe. The MIM Safe Variocage protected Violet and prevented her from being harmed by the impact. The cage did flex and experience compression from the impact, but it held Violet in safety.
I am incredibly grateful for the protection Variocage gave my dog; and also for the rear emergency exit that allowed me to gain access to Violet quickly and safely. As I was close to the show grounds, one of the other exhibitors drove immediately to the site of the accident and took Violet to the show and away from the highway.
The car was later declared a total loss by my insurance company and the hatch was never able to be opened. We all fear this possible scenario with our dogs in crates in the rear of the SUV; but this crate is proven. And for me, the safest choice for my dogs and our travels.
And Violet went on to win Best of Breed!
MIM Safe Variocage is well designed, built and proven. This accident was terrifying, but with the safety of the Variocage, we were unharmed. I am truly grateful.
