Last month, an electrical short in a taillight caused my vehicle to catch fire while inches away, my dog was laying in his Variocage. An observant, quick-thinking bystander noticed the flames and swiftly extinguished the fire before the first responders arrived. Fire rescue extracted my dog from the vehicle. After examination, observation, and treatment for smoke inhalation at the emergency veterinarian, I took my dog home, uninjured. There was not a single mark on him.
My car, however, was totaled. The roof and side of the interior compartment had melted. The fan attached to the crate had melted. The thermometer had melted. The nylon straps and webbing on my cargo cover, soft-sided crate, and chair had melted, but not the Variocage. The steel Variocage remained intact and thanks to its solid roof none of the melting plastic was able to fall inside.
My dog was alive, uninjured, safe, and is with me today.
I bought my Variocage knowing it was the best crate on the market to protect my dog in a crash, but it never occurred to me it would protect him in a vehicle fire.
This could have had such a different and tragic outcome.
Thank you MIM for designing and manufacturing such a phenomenal product and 4×4 North America for introducing these systems to the United States.
